The primary focus of this position is to assist Chartwell with the execution of corporate finance transactions in our corporate sinance/investment banking practice.  The role is designed to provide the senior analyst with a broad based understanding and knowledge of the execution of corporate finance projects, including sell-side and buy-side M&A, various forms of ESOP transactions, debt and equity placements, and other corporate finance assignments.  Specific analytical tasks will include: business valuation in connection with broader assignments; industry research; preparation of marketing materials for both equity and debt investors; presentation preparation; marketing support activities; financial analysis; and other such activities as deemed relevant to the group’s and the firm’s success.  The duties will also include the review of client information, communication with clients regarding active projects, and participation in various meetings with clients and other advisors associated with the Chartwell projects. In addition, the senior analyst may be involved in corporate marketing activities including pitch and proposal development, prospect company research and due diligence investigation, relevant financial and economic research, and sales presentations with prospective clients as directed.

This position requires the senior analyst to develop a deep understanding of cash flow modeling and corporate finance theory, valuation, and corporate finance processes and methodologies used by Chartwell, as well as a detailed working knowledge and expertise with Chartwell’s proprietary financial models, particularly as they relate to ESOPs.


Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Due diligence analysis and financial model data entry

  • Sort, review, analyze and develop conclusions from large amounts of economic, market, industry and company-specific information

  • Prepare presentations describing relevant client company situation analysis, financial review, valuation analysis and other related complex financial analysis and conclusions to individuals who may be unfamiliar with the concepts and analysis

  • Fluency with complex financial modeling and analysis

  • Work independently on multiple engagements with multiple team members while prioritizing and managing varied responsibilities

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of investment banking experience from a nationally recognized financial institution

  • 4 year undergraduate business degree with focus in finance or accounting with a GPA above 3.5

  • Knowledge of corporate finance theories, complex financial/cash flow modeling experience, and proven M&A advisory and/or leveraged finance experience

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills

  • Advanced experience in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Experience with multitasking efficiently and accurately with little oversight

  • Acute attention to detail and a dedication to providing high quality work product

  • Willingness to work hard with a positive attitude

  • Experience in handling sensitive/confidential information

  • Self-motivated and ability to problem solve

  • Strong project and time management skills

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior relevant experience in an investment bank or similar firm providing the analysis described above

  • Ties to the Upper Midwest, as this position is intended to provide an opportunity for the right individual to grow with the firm into positions of increasing leadership

  • Credit training, experience in debt financing, and/or underwriting process, including cash flow modeling experience is a plus

  • Prior experience in a transaction advisory setting providing quality of earnings and/or other due diligence services is desirable, but not mandatory

  • An ability to have fun and create a positive work environment, even under stressful circumstances
