Chartwell Hosts 2021 Pro Day

Chartwell recently welcomed 20 undergraduate students to our Minneapolis office for the firm’s fifth annual Pro Day. This educational outreach program is a chance for college students to get to know Chartwell.

On September 2, 2021, Pro Day students met at Chartwell’s Minneapolis office to learn what a career at Chartwell is like for new analysts. The students attending Pro Day hailed from five different schools: the University of Minnesota, the University of St. Thomas, Augsburg College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Drake University. Our Pro Day team was comprised of eight current Chartwell professionals with tenures at the company ranging from one to over twenty years.

Pro Day started with a warm welcome and firm overview by Managing Director Wil Becker. Next, HR Director Diane Riley talked about the reasons people love to work at Chartwell: our strong culture and our immersive training and development program known as Chartwell University. “We look forward to this event every year and were very disappointed to miss it last year during the pandemic. This was our largest Pro Day group yet and we really enjoy giving the next generation of financial professionals insight into a day in the life at Chartwell,” said Riley.

The group then learned about the technical requirements for a career at Chartwell. Analyst Noah Haverlock discussed typical project processes for valuation, corporate finance, and consulting engagements while Associate Josh Graff and Vice President Matt Dennison introduced employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs). The Chartwell team wrapped up the presentation with short case studies about some of Chartwell’s most notable clients. Pro Day concluded with an interactive lunch where the students sat in small groups with Chartwell professionals. Topics of conversation ranged from how careers began at Chartwell to how to calculate a weighted average cost of capital. Managing Director Matt Schubring commented, “Our team appreciates the opportunity to showcase our firm to the best undergraduate talent. I started my career at Chartwell as an analyst 22 years ago and am always excited to share our story.”
