Michael Coppa

Michael is an investment banker in Chartwell’s corporate finance practice and leads the firm’s advisory activities in the aerospace, defense, and government services sector. Additionally, he is responsible for brand development, relationship management, and transaction execution in the Southeast. Michael has over 20 years of corporate finance, management consulting, and organizational leadership experience, advising publicly- and privately-owned companies and their owners on a wide range of strategic finance, transaction, and operational improvement mandates.

Michael is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), The ESOP Association, the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO), and the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA).

Michael is a registered representative with Chartwell affiliate CCS Transactions, LLC and holds FINRA Series 63 and 79 licenses.

Professional Experience

Prior to Chartwell, Michael served in a variety of advisory and operating roles. He provided investment banking services to middle market clients at both Wells Fargo and Edgeview Partners (currently Piper Sandler) and served large-cap investment banking clients as a member of Wachovia’s (Wells Fargo) Leveraged Finance Group. Additionally, Michael worked as a management consultant with McKinsey & Co., guiding large-cap and government clients through Lean Management and Agile operational transformations.

Earlier in his career, Michael was an Army Aviation commissioned officer serving in leadership roles from Platoon Leader to Company Commander for V Corps in Germany and the 101st Airborne Division where he led his units in combat theatres in Albania, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
