Prior to Chartwell, Greg was Managing Director of Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s M&A advisory group, where he was responsible for covering diversified industrial clients, as well as ESOP advisory for the investment bank. Prior to Bank of America, Greg was Managing Director at ABN AMRO where he was responsible for M&A advisory and a member of the coverage team for the consumer sector. In addition, he established and led the ESOP Advisory practice for the investment bank, as well as co-led the middle market public to private practice. Prior to his large cap investment banking experience, Greg was a Managing Director at Lazard Middle Market (Goldsmith, Agio, Helms) where he represented private business owners, corporations, and  private equity in a variety of middle-market M&A transactions.

In addition, Greg has held positions of increasing responsibility with Fortune 100 companies Diageo, plc and Invensys plc in corporate development, planning, and finance director positions. Greg began his M&A career in private equity with the Jordan Industries, Inc., the holding company strategy of the Jordan Company. He began his career in public accounting.

Wil is a leader in Chartwell’s corporate finance practice and has provided financial advisory services to privately held businesses for more than 30 years. He focuses on providing ownership transition strategies to middle-market companies, including the execution of traditional M&A processes for both sell-side and buy-side transactions. Wil provides corporate consulting services to both private and ESOP-owned companies and has experience within a variety of industry sectors.

Wil also has significant experience in performing valuations of privately-held companies for corporate planning, equity compensation, tax, financial reporting, and transaction-related purposes. Wil is head of Chartwell’s broker dealer affiliate CCS Transactions, LLC, and is its Chief Compliance Officer.

Prior to Bank of America, Will spent considerable time as a member of ABN AMRO’s Global Markets group, where he participated in originating and executing investment grade and high yield bond issuance, traditional senior private placements, securitizations, junior capital and underwriting, and distributing second lien loans. Will also participated in establishing De Meer Asset Management, a division of ABN AMRO, where he acted as a principal investor in liquid and illiquid leveraged senior and junior loan assets as a part of multiple cash and synthetic collateralized loan obligation structures.

Matt is an investment banker in Chartwell’s corporate finance practice, where he is responsible for deal origination, relationship management, and transaction execution. He has over 25 years of experience providing strategic, mergers & acquisitions, and capital raising advice to public and private companies and their boards of directors, CEOs, and CFOs in a variety of industries. Matt supports the growth and leadership of the firm’s industry verticals in the architecture/engineering (AE) and construction markets as well as Chartwell’s corporate finance efforts across the Western region.

Ryan is an investment banker in Chartwell’s corporate finance practice. He was responsible for sourcing, structuring, negotiating, documenting, and closing senior and junior debt investments for both sponsored and non-sponsored financings in support of LBOs, recapitalizations, refinances, and add-on acquisitions. Ryan also served as a rotational member of the firm’s Investment Committee.

Prior to LBC, Ryan was a Director at OFS Capital where he originated and executed new business opportunities with both sponsor and non-sponsored clients. At OFS, Ryan was also a portfolio manager responsible for overseeing a team of account officers and directly managing investments.

Michael is a senior advisor to Chartwell and its clients on special situations including, debt restructurings, public company M&A, and other specialty areas. With more than 30 years of experience in the investment banking and insurance industries, he also assists on numerous corporate finance engagements by utilizing his extensive background in M&A and leveraged finance.

Professional Experience

Michael was a Managing Director at Chartwell from 2017 to 2021. Prior to Chartwell, Michael was a Senior Managing Director in the Restructuring Group at AIG, which was responsible for successfully repaying $182 billion of government assistance. Michael was involved in the repayment of the Federal Reserve Bank ($49B), asset sales ($55B), capital markets financing ($20B), and the renegotiation of the U.S. Treasury TARP investment into common stock ($49B). After the government repayment (including a $23B profit), Michael served as Corporate VP-Finance and COO of the AIG Finance Department for four years.

Prior to AIG, Michael was an investment banker for 25 years. He led the U.S. Financial Sponsor coverage group at ABN AMRO for seven years and served as a Managing Director in Financial Sponsor Coverage at UBS and as a Managing Director in M&A at Bear Stearns. Furthermore, he was the founder and head of the Bankruptcy and Restructuring and Leveraged Finance groups at Schroder Wertheim & Co. (now part of Citigroup). Michael began his career as a corporate and tax lawyer at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett. Since 2009, Michael has been an Adjunct Professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business where he teaches a second-year elective in financial restructuring.

Matt has a particular interest and expertise in employee ownership and ESOP transactions.
